Japan trade minister says economy has bottomed out
CANBERRA - The Japanese economy has bottomed out and should record positive economic growth this year, Japan's Minister of International Trade and Industry Kaoru Yosano said Monday.
During a visit to Canberra, Yosano told reporters he recognized that Australia had concerns about the state of the Japanese economy.
''I believe that the Japanese economy has bottomed out, based on some indicators in the recent days,'' he said.''I am confident that we can achieve positive economic growth in Japan this year."
Yosano made the comments at a press conference here following a meeting with Australian Trade Minister Tim Fischer to discuss trade issues.
''I am convinced that we will show plus growth rate this year,'' Yosano said.
Asked about the future, he replied: ''Ten year's time - I don't know. I have no power for prophecy, I am sorry."
