News Corp., Disney may be hurt by China crackdown
Bloomberg News

Tokyo - News Corp. and Walt Disney Co. may lose part of China's growing television market after government authorities ordered cable stations to remove foreign satellite broadcasts from their programming, the Financial Times reported, citing industry executives.

The crackdown could have the greatest impact on Hong Kong-based Phoenix Satellite Television, which is 45 percent owned by News Corp. and said this week it planned to list on Nasdaq.

Chinese authorities took the action ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre on June 3 and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples' Republic in October, the paper said.

News Corp. said in March that it planned to increase its financial news reporting for viewers in China and set up a separate Chinese-language news channel for the region.
