Philippine government seizes smuggled goods

MANILA - The Philippine government has seized P20 million (US$373,000) worth of smuggled imported goods and rice.

Palace spokesperson Ignacio Bunye said the smuggled goods were seized by combined elements of the Anti-Smuggling Task Force, the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

The Anti-Smuggling Task Force is under the newly created Anti-Smuggling Intelligence and Investigation Center (ASIIC).

Since last year, Bunye said the ASIIC has seized smuggled vegetables and rice with a combined worth P59 million. Another P24 million worth of misdeclared agricultural products were apprehended.
