Indonesia to install wi-fi facilities in 500 hot spots

JAKARTA - Telecommunication company PT Telkomsel will provide Internet wireless fidelity (wi-fi) facilities in around 500 hot spots in Indonesia, which at present has only 10 hot spots.

"Gradually the facilities will be added," the director of Planning and Development for PT Telkomsel, Bambang Riady Oemar, said here on Tuesday.

Wi-fi is an Internet connection facility based on radio frequency using broadband network, enabling users to connect to the Internet without a cable.

Currently, the hot spots are in Jakarta and Batam island, but Bambang admitted the appropriate hot spots to support the facilities were still limited.

At the moment, there are seven wi-fi hot-spot locations in Jakarta, namely at Bina Graha building, Bank BNI headquarters, Taman Anggrek Mall, Grand Melia Hotel, Plaza Senayan, Plaza Indonesia and PT Telkom headquarters. The three other hot-spot locations are on in Batam island.
