NEW DELHI -
Samsung will invest another US$5 million (Rs226 million)
in a software research and development (R&D) center
at Noida this year to develop products like digital
televisions and plasma display panels for global
consumption.
The company, which set up the
center in 2002, has already put $12 million into
R&D, including research into hardware, a company
spokesperson told reporters.
"We will bring in
another $5 million for software R&D this year.
Manpower is also likely to double by next year to 300
people at the Noida center," the spokesperson said.
Addressing a Cetma seminar on Emerging
Technologies and Trends in the Consumer Electronics
Sector, Samsung Corporation's David Steel said
developing software strength in India will lead to more
television and home appliance entertainment
applications.
