GUANGZHOU - Electricity
supply in South China's Guangdong province is expected
to remain tight next year owing to rapid growth of the
local economy. Many foreign firms are located in the
province and some are complaining about electricity
shortages and cutting back on production.
The
Guangdong Power Group predicted that the province's
electricity consumption will reach 270.9 billion kwh of
electricity next year with highest load of 45 million
kwh, up 13.5% and 13.4%, respectively, over the figures
for this year.
Guangdong's economy maintained
rapid growth in the first three quarters of this year,
consuming 177.1 billion kwh of electricity, up 18% year
on year.
The highest load was 39.7 kwh in early
August, up 16.8% over the same period of last year.
The annual electricity consumption in the
province is expected to reach 238.7 billion kwh this
year, up 17.5% over last year.
