Japan captured medals in three sports in the Paralympic Games on Sept. 12, including its first in the sport of boccia.
Japan won silver in the boccia team competition, losing the gold medal game to Thailand 9-4.
Although many of the sports in the Paralympics are modeled after ones in the Olympic Games, boccia is one of only two that are played exclusively in the Paralympics. The other is goalball, which is contested by visually impaired athletes
