Travel: Station wine bar an added draw for visitors to Karuizawa

If you fancy a tipple before the journey home, or conversely after arriving at this scenic tourist spot, then Au Depart may be just the place.

The wine bar sits on a platform inside JR Karuizawa Station, allowing customers to soak up the railway atmosphere. It opened June 30 and offers 40 or so wines produced in Nagano Prefecture.

Au Depart is specifically targeting tourists to Karuizawa. It is operated by Karuizawa Wine Portal, a company set up with investments from Toyoo Tamamura, who runs a winery in Tomi, and others. Read more
