Sports: South Korean archers get ready for gold rush in Rio

Traditionally, archery has been South Korea’s Olympic goldmine. This year, too, it is expected to be just that.

As the Rio Olympics draws closer, about 500 arrows a day each are keeping their hopes for yet another gold haul alive. Even while such expectations impose pressure on the archers, hard work is what, they believe, will work out in their favour.

South Korean Ki Bo-bae bids to become the first archer to defend an individual Olympic title.

Archery has been a gold mine for Korea at the Olympics with the country’s athletes hogging 19 of the 36 titles up for grabs since the sport returned in its modern format in 1972, Reuters reported.

Its archers have won at least two golds at each Games since 1988.
