Yes, Asia’s reeling under the Korean wave. But do we know how much those romance dramas have infatuated Taiwanese stars?
Actor Darren Wang, also known as Wang Da-lu, said: “I want to work with Park Shin-hye. If I could act with Park Shin-hye, I would play any role.”
Darren Wang, who starred in the hit Taiwanese romance movie “Our Times,” said this at a fan meeting in Ewha University, Seoul, today (July 13), Soompi reported.
Should we be surprised? Super-hit Korean drama “Descendants of the Sun” that premiered earlier this year is still an hot topic. It turned out to be an Asian phenomenon with unforeseen success. Song Joong-ki’s recent Asian tour that covered eight cities witnessed packed halls. All of his fan meetings were grand successes.
Not just that, even Indian producers are emulating Korean romance in many interesting ways. Some of the Korean films are also being remade.
Current Korean drama “Uncontrollably Fond” is also a mega hit in China. After it was released on July 6 in Korea and China simultaneously, it recorded over 40 million paid views in China alone. Chinese are indeed excited about the drama that stars Kim Woo-bin, Bae Suzy, Im Joo-hwan, and Im Joo-eun.
In China, the Wednesday-Thursday drama is exclusively aired on video streaming site Youku Tudou and open to users who are willing to pay to watch. It had accumulated over 40 million views for the first and second episodes, Yonhap quoted the PR company 3HW.
Darren Wang also expressed another wish: “I want to play brothers with Won Bin. It would be nice if we were both killers too.”
When asked about the possibility of future Korean projects, he said, “I don’t know if any Korean people have seen my productions, but I’m very interested in appearing in Korean dramas. I think Korean productions do a good job of presenting the perfect texture of a drama.”
AllKpop reported that Darren Wang thanked Song Joong-ki for portraying his character in a skit for fans, saying, “I’m very thankful, and I had a lot of fun with it,” adding, “the director’ is a huge fan of Song Joong-ki. Ask him how he feels.”
Director Frankie Chen then commented shyly, “I was surprised that such a big star watched the movie twice. I was also happy that he sang a song from the film. All my daughter’s friends’ mothers were at that fan meeting, but I was too embarrassed to go.”
He also stated he’d love to do a film with Song Joong-ki.
