Technology: Introducing Sansumg Galxay Ntoe!

If you don’t have an iPhone, well, you may have a Goophone! It looks exactly like the Apple device and even has the logo in place. Interface looks similar to the latest iOS (but it is Android inside) and the response is a bit slower. What more can you expect from a $50 rip-off?

China is known for its knockoff talents and flooding the markets with cheaper counterfeits of all popular smartphones. Some of the smartphones carry names such as Sansumg Galxay Ntoe. A few others come without the logos. But some are exact clones, such as the Goophone.

Every iteration of the iPhone has had at least one clone (mostly multiple), some even before the Apple product was out. Clones come in assorted shades and sizes. And, an unexpected thing happened recently when some random Chinese mobile company sued Apple for stealing its design. An unknown company called “100+” has also managed to stop Apple from selling iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in Beijing! The case was under the review of the IP Court in Beijing.

Smartphone manufacturers getting inspired by popular smartphone designs may be one thing, but making a complete rip-off and taking the liberty to use a logo is something else. Take for instance, the Goophone i6s which is a complete carbon copy of iPhone 6s. It has a circular home button just like that of Apple and also the circular metallic ring around the button (shows the amount of attention paid to the tiniest of details).

Its 4.7-inch display comes with a decent resolution of 1280 x 800. It has MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset under its hood, which is an octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. It has an 8 MP rear and a 5 MP front camera, and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 with a custom skin on top of it, which resembles the iOS interface a lot. It doesn’t have the Apple logo though, but the $50 iPhone SE (Goophone) has the logo, too.

Well, such devices may be more than enough to fool a friend into believing it is an Apple device. Goophone has built clones of almost all flagships including the latest in the Galaxy series – S7.

Next is the C-002 iPhone counterfeit. This one features an operating system that is blatantly lifted from older generation Apple OS. Several such manufacturers like Cool 999 and C-002 are into popular clones.

For the budget-conscious, such clones may be just enough for show-off. But in terms of interface and functionality, these rip-offs have a long way to go.
