Girls’ Generation member Im Yoona will be the new face of Chinese charity campaign, Power to Go.
Launched by Chinese actor Chen Kun in 2010, the fundraiser involves top stars to raise donations for various charity projects. According to IBTimes, celebs and volunteers launch a silent march in remote villages for a week to raise funds which will be used for the welfare of children and their education in China.
It is reported that Im Yoona is the second non-Chinese model to be selected for a Chinese state campaign. South Korean actor Jung Yong-hwa was designated as a campaign spokesperson recently.
Recent Chinese entertainment industry stats had indicated that the popularity of Im Yoona is soaring past all records. While Google search trends show that Song Joong-ki is the hottest online search, according to an IBTimes report, Im Yoona outclassed “Descendants of the Sun” super-star Song Joong-ki in popularity in China. It said the actress recently defeated Song Joong-ki, in the Chinese popularity graph released by Chinese entertainment data analysis and consulting company Vlinkage. She is being highly applauded for her lead role as Zhao Yun on Hunan TV’s God of War.
