Dongdaemun Market, the mecca of the Korean fashion industry in downtown Seoul, was the most popular travel-related keyword searched on Google, the state-run Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said Tuesday.
Dongdaemun market is the second most-visited shopping district in South Korea by foreigners following Myeongdong. The market is crowded with shoppers hunting for designer clothes at cheap prices and is also close to Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the newest landmark designed by late architect Zaha Hadid.
On the world’s most popular search engine, Korean dramas came second, followed by kimchi, the representative Korean food.
Gangnam, the affluent region in southern Seoul that was the theme of Psy’s 2012 hit song “Gangnam Style,” and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates the two Koreas along the 38th parallel were also frequently searched on the world’s most popular search engine. Read More
