Philippines: Duterte offers Cabinet posts to Communist Party

Presumptive president Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte on Monday revealed the names of the individuals he wants to be part of his administration.

Among the officials he mentioned is his running mate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. He said he will ask Cayetano to choose between the Department of Foreign Affairs or the Justice Department or he may opt to stick to the Senate as he also respects that.

Duterte also mentioned that he offered former vice presidential bet and former Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Perfecto Yasay to serve as the acting Foreign Affairs secretary for a year. He even asked Yasay to take a furlough in his teaching career at a university in Hawaii to serve for a year.

Under a Duterte presidency, the mayor said the Communist Party of the Philippines will be offered the Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Labor and Employment or the Department Social Welfare and Development.

Former defense secretary and presidential hopeful Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, who visited Duterte in Davao City to congratulate him, was offered a cabinet post as defense chief, ABS-CBN reports.

Teodoro said he was surprised at the offer and would decide on it soon. Read More
