One of Taiwan’s most wanted fugitives killed in US car crash

Wang You-theng, the fugitive chairman of the now-defunct Rebar Asia Pacific Group, was killed in a car crash early on Friday in California, where he had lived for several years after fleeing the country following his conviction for embezzlement.

US media reports indicate that Wang’s vehicle was caught in a five-car pileup in West Covina, California, while traveling to make preparations for his daughter’s wedding.

Born in China, Wang ran a department store in Shanghai, then fled to Taiwan following the defeat of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) by the Chinese Communist Party in 1949, where he invested in a popular night club. Read More
