At least 39 migrants, including children, drowned on Saturday when their boat sank off northwestern Turkey.

Coast Guard teams rescued 62 migrants, private Doğan news agency said, adding that patrol boats were still searching the waves for others. Many of the rescued were hospitalized for hypothermia.

The migrant boat departed from Ayvacık town in the northwestern province of Çanakkale on Saturday morning and was headed to Greece’s Lesvos island.

The migrants were of Syrian, Afghan and Myanmar origin, according to Doğan.
