The Philippines will station new fighter jets and two frigates at the former U.S. naval facility in Subic Bay from early next year, officials said, the first time the massive installation has functioned as a military base in 23 years.

Using Subic Bay would allow the Philippine air force and navy to respond more effectively to Chinese moves in the disputed South China Sea, security experts said. Subic Bay’s deep-water harbor lies on the western side of the main Philippine island of Luzon, opposite the South China Sea.

“The value of Subic as a military base was proven by the Americans. Chinese defense planners know that,” said Rommel Banlaoi, a Philippine security expert.

    What a joke. The Philippines made the biggest mistake in their short history of having Independence (1946 to 1991) when they arrogantly decided to not re-new the U.S. bases agreement. NOT due to any sovereignty claims, but ONLY because the 12 Senators were after 1.2 billion dollars in annual rental, whereas the U.S. was only willing to pay 864 million annually for Subic Bay alone. These 12 “Corrupt” Senators were willing to throw away the security of their country for unforeseen wealth, but they obviously did not anticipate the U.S. penchant for eventually developing such a distaste for a country of corrupt & greedy people that they would choose to walk away from any further support of this country, rather than continuing to prop them up militarily. NOW that the Philippines is under direct military threat from China & still refuses to stop their corrupt lifestyles in order to build up their defenses, Filipinos have attempted to practice their age old art of “Pakisama (arse kissing),” in hopes of getting the U.S. to once again protect their weak country, forgetting how, in the words of Filipinos, “They kicked the Kano Out of the Philippines!” Well, be careful for what you wished for, because the Kano is definitely GONE from the Philippines…
